Florida Vacation Rental Secrets – What Not To Say To A Vacation Home Owner!

I think this is true for pretty much everything – we are all looking for the best possible deal. You want a great Florida vacation home for a great price.

Want some hints at what not to say to vacation home owners out there when you send out your first request? The most important point to realise is that just as they have made a good impression on you ( obviously you like the house or your wouldn’t be contacting them) you need to make a good first impression on them too! This is a two way thing here – they have to trust you too!

Email is a difficult thing. A ‘wrong’ word here and there can be sent off into cyber space which sends the recipient heading for the delete button faster than you can say “I didn’t mean it’.

So what should you do? Don’t worry. This isn’t a job interview! Just being polite is usually all it takes to make a good first impression.

Things that don’t work for me and do send me to the delete button? This kind of thing…………
“I have a really big group of people wanting to get the absolute maximum ( and more) people into the house and because I am doing you a big favor just even thinking about renting your home then give me a really discounted deal’

“I have been offered a house for $x ( which happens to be 10, 15, 50% less than your published rate). The other house I have been offered is completely inferior, has less facilities, a really bad location, but I still am telling you that there are houses out there for less so you should discount your rate”.

Everyone wants the best home for the best rate. The owner is proud of their home ( or should be if it is worth looking at)! Just be ‘nice’ – that is all it takes.

  2. I think it is really important to create a relationship with the people who are going to rent my place. Finding out what their needs are and assessing whether they are a good match for the house is part of my ’screening’. I get an immediate negative vibe from people looking for a ‘deal’, mentioning ‘party, or conveniently forgetting they have children until we have just about agreed on the reservation.
